I have been doing Serge´s turorials and all the examples of uses of custom edges seem to be for symmetrical roundish sort of objects. I was wondering if it could be used also to make something a little bit more complex with custom edges in 2 directions, like an LCD screen. I’m not talking a simple box, but an actual detailed TV with a curved side and a curved top like this:

I’ve been playing around a bit and I don’t seem to be getting anywhere so I just thought I’d ask and find out of it was possible at all before I waste my time. I had hoped to just get the general shape of the LCD going and then use layer maps and apply the images to the shape to “fake” the details.

    thanks! anna

    Hi Anna,

You’re right that the custom edges you apply gets applied to all sides of the object. With that said, for the LCD that you are making, you should be able to create 2 separate shapes, and place them together. One piece will be the LCD panel in the front while the other piece will be the piece in the back with all the exhaust holes. By using bump maps, you will be able to create the look for the holes.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,
    Edward
