  • Could this be a share drivers kind of issue?

    Hi guys,
I recently quit using my Delta 1010 and started using a Presonus Audiobox 22 vsl.
Every time I open another app (ie copy/pasting from wordpad or opening/closing windows explorer) and go back to VP12 I get an hour glass busy thing for like 8 seconds and then some slight pops and I’m back to normal.
Neither of those apps use audio (I don’t think) what would cause this I wonder?
It doesn’t do this using Sonar X2 (the only other program installed)….is there a share audio drivers option somewhere I can’t seem to be able to find?
    Thanks very much,
    Randy

could be a driver problem I have a usb EMU 1204 midi audio interface that is not 64 bit supported they just dropped the product 3 months after I bought it.

Not sure if your re running into the same problem. I am now going usb keyboard and mics which aren’t anywhere near the quality of the stuuf in the studio, but, music companies bring out new hardware and then drop them after two years so you are left without a front end. at least usb is supported and latency with usb 2 -3 is no longer an issue.

Thanks Brent but I have to ask why it would work as expected in Sonar and not VP12.

Presonus does seem to be trying in that they’ve supported 64 bit for some time now…really hoping it’s some setting I can change in VP12 to eliminate the problem (ie allow shared drivers or something)…fingers crossed
    Thanks again Brent,
    Randy

not the context of the forum but…
how do like sonar? I have been using Cubase since day 1 and frankly was hoping for something better when Hans Zimmer bought into it. Seems to be packaged towards the dance / loop crowd and not towards film and tv guys. Plus they use a damn dongle. I hate that thing. I am always paranoid it will break of the usb port or I’ll loose it.

I am host of a show called Night Fright (don’t be scared its Canadian lol) the only thing scary here is 25cm of snow in winter. Anyway just bought a new lap top and finally got new blue 2.0 up and going and love it now that it worked. Just had Jesse Ventura on the show and was editing it getting ready to render and there is no mp4 in pro 12! talk about a bummer. can’t figure out what happened to it its still there in my desk top…weird. Hey I should do a show on THAT LOL!

Like you and Cubase, I’ve been with Cakewalk forever …also like Cubase CW sold themselves (to Roland, the hardware musical instrument guys).
That said, I like Sonar a lot…speaking of Hans Zimmer, I’m a big fan and able to create reasonable facsimiles of the likes of him, Danny Elfman, Mike Oldfield, etc with 3rd part software.
The best thing about Sonar though is the very active forum…one can usually get an answer to any issue they’re having within a couple of hours.
I could say a lot more but we should probably take this offline, you can send me an email at Randy@CrystalClearNM.com if you’d like.
BTW, I’m not sure what you mean there’s no mp4 in VP12…what about the Main Concept templates?
So… anyone know if there’s a “share driver” option in VP12? I can’t find anything in prefs or the manual but that doesn’t mean it’s not there knowing me.

    Hi Randy,
I’m a fellow Sonar user (bvideo). Nice to see you here.
    There’s a setting in Options->Preferences->General that says
“[] Close audio and MIDI ports when not the active application”
and another one that may contribute to your 8 seconds (or more with a larger project):
“[] Close media fles when not the active application”
Another consideration (for purposes of comparing with Sonar’s behavior) is whether your version of Vegas is using ASIO or not (mine is Movie Studio Platinum 12.0 and doesn’t support ASIO).

Thanks my friend that was it…I should have read each of those options instead of just scanning for the word drivers in the prefs (and searching the manual)…and yes I’m using the asio drivers that came with my interface.
All seems to be normal now, thanks again!
