Corrupt FCP file? Won’t open.
Hello all,
I know this question has been posted on the forum in the past, but I have thoroughly searched past postings and tried everything brought up in response, and none of the solutions are working for me.
I have a project that has been sitting on an external hard drive untouched for a few months. I open it up and begin working on the project, but it’s acting a little weird. Eventually I have to force quit FCP and restart the computer. Then when I try to open the project i get “This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut,” even though I was able to open it and work on it a few minutes ago.
I trash the user prefs, verify my disk permissions and back up the whole project. Try launching again (from original & backup), same error message. I move the drive to a different computer, same problem. Just bought the new FCS package, so I take the time to install the latest version of the suite and run software update. Still I get the same error message upon launching.
At this point I moved to the forums and did some reading up. Tried the following recommendations from Creative Cow users: Duplicated the file, renamed it & tried opening the copy. Deleted the render files. Unmounted the scratch disks. Checked read & write permissions for the project, the folder & the drive. I’m still getting the same error message.
Obviously my FCP file is corrupted. I checked back in the autosave vaults and there’s nothing new enough to be hugely helpful. Is there any way to save this project file?
Thanks in advance.
