When outputting to Zoom H4n from what I understand, you should not use the xlr inputs because it will trigger the zoom’s noisy preamps. But some people say it will either way, so do you guys think there are any reasons to buy a new xlr to 1/4” jack cable or can’t I just use my xlr to xlr breakway cable instead?

What gain setting should I aim for on the Zoom? Somewhat around 20-30, and then calibrate it with the SD’s output attenuated setting?
