About to start an edit and looking for the correct timeline settings. The client has HD footage shot 24p and the graphics at 30 FPS that need to go in also.

What should I set my timeline at so that I can use both smoothly and not have to render over and over.

    Any thoughts?

    From Client:

“We are shooting everything 24P , but are graphics are 30fps SD…we need to figure out the correct set up for FCP timeline when mixing frame rates and formats before jumping in.”

FCP does not handle mixed resolution or frames rates without rendering any mismatch. The question is always what is the deliverable.

There is no magic setting that will handle this. If you need to stay in HD you will need to convert all the SD graphics to HD and 24p, not a good idea. Or if your graphics are the most important you need to downconvert the HD and add pulldown to edit in a 30p (should really be 29.97) to match the graphics.
