  • Correct Sequence Settings for t2i/HDSLR footage in CS4

Posted by Steffen Wiegand on April 2, 2012 at 1:35 pm

    Hey,

after the start up, you have to chose the sequence settings for your project.

The preset most fitting for the t2i footage in CS4 seems to be the “HDV 1080p24” setting.

However, several things are not quite right with this preset:
    – it says HD anamorphic (1,333), while my footage is (1,0) and as far as I know not anamorphic
    – the size of the “comp” is 1440 x 1080, while my footage is 1920 x 1080

Any suggestions how to handle that? How do you set up your PPro correctly for HDSLR footage?

I think I remember that CS5 upwards has presets set out for HDSLRs… Again: Would an update be the best option?

Thanks for your help in advance
    See you

In the project window, drag one of your clips over the “new sequence” icon and it will make a sequence that matches your clip settings (1920×1080, 1.0 pixel aspect ratio, etc). Then you can delete that clip in the new sequence and you’re good to go!

IMO It’s a bit of a pain to set up a custom sequence so I usually just click through those initial settings quickly and delete the default sequence. As I understand things, it doesn’t matter what the default sequence settings are, especially if you aren’t using the default sequences!

    Hey Ben,

    thanks for your reply.

Your option works well in AE CS4, but strangely, there is no Button for “New Sequence” in PPro (also CS4) in the Project Window. The little buttons from left to right are “List View” / “Icon View”, and then “Automate to sequence”, “Find”, “New bin”, “New item” and “Clear” ….

I can click “New item”, then chose “Sequence” – but then I have the same choice as when I start the programme …

Is this some kind of drawback in PPro CS4?

Alas, for CS4 there is no drag your footage in the New Item icon to create a new sequence feature. This was introduce in CS5.
You will have to make a custom sequence. I do have to warn you CS4 does not work well with H.264 in a mov wrapper.

    Hey Ann,

I had the inkling that I had to go for the update – also to get full 64bit support. Thus, just a few minutes back I ordered the new Master Collection with elibility for CS6 😉 I hope that file/footage handling for HDSLR material will be better.

    See you
