What is the correct number of pixels to use when resizing still images JPEG’s for use on the timeline so that they will the 4.3 or 16.9 aspect ratio correctly?

    Thanks in advance

Vegas really doesn’t care as it will adjust the images accordingly to match the project property’s aspect ratio (Pan/Crop – Match output aspect or use a script).
The CS versions of Photoshop allow you to set the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) accordingly. This is 0.9091 (NTSC DV) or 1.2121 (NTSC DV Widescreen).

If you take a snapshot of the timeline, you will get 655×480. So, you *could* resize to that size. However, I just pop images onto the timeline at ANY size and then just to a “Match Aspect Ratio” on them.

Oops… that’s open Pan/Crop, right-click the image, and pick “Match OUTPUT Aspect”.
