Copy/Paste a title without altering it

Open the title, and at the upper left of the Titler window is a button that will duplicate the current title, with a new name, then you can make your changes.

Let me elaborate on my title workflow. I’m currently working on several dance recitals with a LOT of titles (one for each act), and I want to have a “template” for uniformity. I make the first title and place it, then copy/paste that “Title 1” into next slot, then open it in Titler by double-clicking on it in the sequence.

I next hit the button to make a copy, and rename “Title 2” or whatever, then alter the title contents and exit. When I go back to Premiere, the “Title 1” is still highlighted, and I right-click and choose “Replace with clip from bin”, which is the latest “Title 2” I just created. Done! Automatically replaces with updated title and maintains the current length and any effects.

You are correct, versions need to be created in the project panel or title tool. Duplicates made in the sequence link to the same master clip.

hi

i want to copy a title 1 which I animated, paste it into a new slot (rename it) and then
alter only text on the first title, without loosing the animation, how do I do that, kind of opposite of nesting…

Hi Caroline,

Try this – copy and paste the title, then double click the copy to open in Titler, then click the button for “Create new titled based on current”. Modify the text and exit Titler (new title gets added to bin). Right-click on copied title on timeline, and select “Replace with Clip from Bin”. This should update clip to NEW title text, while keeping current effects attributes.

My idea is get rid of Premiere title and use photoshop page to write what you want and export a png images to Premiere

If you’re on a mac, click and drag it while holding option. That will make a duplicate that you can edit without changing the first one. I will sometimes do a copy and paste, then option drag it up a layer (and delete the old one).

It’s one thing about Premiere that’s always a bit of a pain. Personally, I don’t need 75 files with uniquely named files. I never look at those filenames anyways… But the option drag thing works beautifully….

For PC
In the timeline hold alt and drag the title to where you want the next one to be. You have now created an editable copy that will not affect the original.
