Copying motion atributes issue
Hello,
I have quite an annoying problem with copying of atributes. The situation is following: There was a scene which required some speed tweaking. The take straight from rush, got sliced and the speeds were adjusted (there is quite a lot adjustments in a single slice). However, because the grading had to be done by someone else, at the same time with the edit, now I have to reconnect the graded unedited version with the edited one. Standard reconnecting doesn’t work here. The problem is that even after I sliced the graded version by matching in/out’s copying the edited slice atributes and pasting them to the graded slice gives a very weird result. It appears as FCP disregards all the slicing, and is copying all the keyframes regarding to the edited slices on track to the single graded slice. I hope i explained it clearly enough. . Is there any way I can make FCP copy speed atributes from one slice to another (the graded and ungraded slices with all the atributes removed are different only by colour) which would make the other clip look exactly as i copied the keyframes? It appears as I’ll have to manually redo the whole edit on the graded version mundanely retyping the keyframes. I don’t even know how to ask that question properly, hah. Thanks for any help.

Hi Adam, I /think/ I understand what you’re getting at, but it’s a little unclear to be honest 🙂
Did you try unchecking the “scale attribute times” option when you paste the speed attributes?

Yes, I did. I doesn’t help. Whatever I do it takes all the keyframes relating to the same clip on the track and selected attribute and puts them into one single slice of the graded one at the same time shortening it proportionaly. For instance, if i “copy” attributes from one slice and paste them to the wole unsliced clip, it will shorten it to the size of that slice at the same time inserting all the keyframes coming from the sliced clips, resulting with a super fast clip. I’m frazzled.

Can you post a screen shot of your timeline?
It sounds like you are are razor-blading your clip into sections, right? Before you start copying and pasting attributes, make sure you’ve exactly matched the length and in and out points of every razor bladed section from the clip.
Also, if you are pasting speed attributes from clips whose SOURCE in and outs are different (for example, maybe your graded clip is just a smaller portion of a larger overall clip), then the speed attributes may not translate properly.

Thank you for your help. Yep, you are right, someone who was doing the grading just cut out a little bit in the beginning, which was considered as useless (yeah, why the hell they sent a clip with a clatterboard person, lets cut it out…) totally messing up the workflow. And yes, the keyframes didn’t translate properly. Anyway, I love this community for such quick and accurate help. Thank you very much again.

I was thinking you might be able to “fool” Final Cut by dropping the graded clip into an empty timeline, then adding an appropriate amount of slug to the head and tail to make the timeline exactly the same length as the original clip.
Then export this as a self contained quicktime with “use current settings” selected.
Then try copying and pasting the speed attributes to this new clip. I haven’t tested this, but it might work in theory!
