    Can anyone suggest an app that does a good job of converting wmv inot an editable format (uncompressed avi)?

    Do a search for WMV to DV, you can also look at the https://www.VideoHelp.com web site, be aware you are going from a end product that has alot of compression, you may pickup undesirable artifacts.

    Pro can edit and export .wmv files to most any format just fine, considering the files are highly compressed to begin with.
