  • converting video in 4×3 timeline to work in 16×9 timeline

i have a project that i’ve edited in a standard 4×3 sequence. the video was shot in anamorphic, so FCP squeezed the video to give me a letterbox look with the black bars on top and bottom – as it should do.

here’s the problem, the client informs me that what they want is true 16×9 and not letterbox. the project is 13 minutes with a lot of edits. if i click the “16×9 anamorphic” checkbox in the sequence settings, it makes the sequence 16×9, but all the video is still letterboxed and squeezed.

is there a way to globally convert the video in the timeline to a true 16×9 – without the letterbox bars?

i can drag a clip from the browser window into this new timeline and it will be what i want, but anything already on the timeline retains the “letterbox” look.

    help!

A couple quick ideas: new sequence, copy and paste entire edit into it OR you might have to just bite the bullet and match frame/f10 every edit.

“if i click the “16×9 anamorphic” checkbox in the sequence settings, it makes the sequence 16×9, but all the video is still letterboxed and squeezed.”

At this point select all the footage in the timeline control click – remove attritbutes – distort. That will unsqueeze your footage leaving you with a 16×9 sequence.

Dude you seem to be very knowledgeable of FCP and I’m a big fan of In Fisherman which leads me to a nonrelative question…I’m planning on purchasing the Nikon D80 dslr which is scheduled for release next month…it will replace the popular D70s released earlier this year (total sidebar), given the specs of this camera, do you think I would be able to snap a crisp freeze frame of a dog jumping up a tree or a fat guy falling off an inner tube? Also, what is the best kind of fishing lure to use for catching a 50″ muskie?
