  • Converting tiff files for use in FCP 4.5

Posted by Frank Cervarich on June 8, 2006 at 4:04 pm

    System – G4 500 meg dual coprocessor
    FCP – 4.5
    OSX – 10.3.9

Downloaded tiff files. Have razor edges when saved after inserting into timeline. Look fine in the preview.

Files – square pixel apect ratio, tiff, range of size (6282×4891, 6359×5022, 6336×4956)

Do I need specific software to solve my problem? Can it be done with FCP or software that comes with OSX? I’m lost and need help. Thanks.

Photoshop CS will solve all your problems.

    Those pictures are Gi-Mungus, HUGE.

Better to be bigger than smaller

Very large stills like that always look like total crap until you do a “Render All” (Option-R). Render times are pretty serious too, but it usually looks pretty good. Sometimes I leave them large like that, especially if I am going to “push-in” to a part of the still. I have had to use the “Anti Alias” filter in some cases too.

If you do need to resize, and it looks like you probably do, Photoshop is the go-to app for all tasks like that. But it is not cheap. If you HAVE to get something out without spending money, you can actually do this in QuickTime Pro. Open the image, press Apple-J to get properties, click on “Video Track” and go to the “Visual Settings” tab. From here you can scale it and re-save it.

    Hope this helps.
