  • Converting Sony A7SII video files for DaVinci Resolve?

Posted by Seth Cashman on December 23, 2015 at 3:58 pm

    Hi all,

Pretty new to video, so I’m still easily confused. Just shot some footage on an A7sII (slog3/XAVC-S/mp4 wrapper) and I’d like to be able to work on them in Resolve, but the files don’t seem to be compatible. Any suggestions as to what I need to do to convert them so that they are Resolve-ready? What format should they be converted into? Any software recommendations?

    Thanks!

How do they not seem to be compatible? Does the Resolve browser not see them?

Beware that conversions may take away your ability to use the reverse log/lin transforms.

I’m using the same camera & mp4 wrappers, and they seem to import ok to Resolve 12. Currently at HD resolution.

If you need to convert, something like DNxHR would be a nice codec for 4K material. Premiere can do the conversion but it’s not the world’s handiest converter.. but if you get them to import to Resolve, that’s the easiest solution.

Edit Ready will rewrap or transcode to a format Resolve likes.
