converting P2 files for Final Cut Express
I edit on FCP 6 and shoot HD with a Panasonic HVX200 using P2 cards. I recently shot some footage for an outside client on P2 at 1080/60i. I copied the raw P2 files to an external drive and sent him the drive but he edits in Final Cut Express and couldn’t open them. I then logged and transferred the files myself in FCP and sent him the .mov files. He says he still can’t open them in Express. Is there something he or I can do with these .movs so he can import them to Final Cut Express? Thanks.

I don’t think FCE supports DVCPro HD, which I’m sure you figured out by now.
You could convert the clips to Apple Intermediate Codec.

Correct FCE only supports DV and AIC.
Keep in mind that you should be billing the client hourly for the time it takes to convert the footage so depending on how much footage it is it may be a better idea for the client to just purchase FCP.

It worked. Thanks. I see Express doesn’t have the red, yellow and blue editing buttons like FCP. It threw me off.
