converting old footage
I have hours of broll caputured on a canopus machine running a dv storm 2 video card. The video was captured in avi format. When I try and import it into FCP, the file won’t play back. When I run it thru Cleaner 6.5 and try to convert to quicktime, the video turns white. How can I get my FCP system to work with this archived video?
Thanks ahead of time for any responses. This will save me days if I can get this corrected.

Have you tried importing it into Quicktime and done a QT conversion out from there?…
and if that doesn’t work, hmmm… what else will open AVI? Shake? AE? Premiere? RealPlayer…?JPO

I would make sure your box has the divx avi codec and then try to convert the footage thru compressor and edit with that. Let me know how you do.

Your AVI files are proprietary having been created by your old card. Without a software codec that matches you’ll most likely be SOL for converting them to QT on a MAC. If you have small file I will try a test for you using Canopus Procoder 2 on a PC — its possible that it has a built-in codec that might work because you used a Canopus machine originally.
