  • Converting MXF audio and video into FCP 7

    Hello all,
I have a bunch of clips that need to be cut that are all on an external hard drive. The contents of the drive are:

    Audio folder:-MXF Files
    Video folder-MXF files
    Clip folder-XML files
    Icon-BMP files
    Proxy-(empty)
    Voice-(empty)

What is the best way to import these into FCP 7? Log and Transfer doesn’t work as the files are greyed out. Also all these files have a little lock icon on the corner of them. Does that make a difference?

Thank you that is a great tutorial, but do I need to purchase a 3rd party program for these MXF files?

No. They should work just fine in Log and Transfer…if you follow the proper steps I laid out. Don’t go digging into the folders with Log and Transfer. Select the main folder that has the CONTENTS folder inside. As I said, each card should be backed up to a new folder with a unique name, and that name becomes the REEL number. Inside that folder should be CONTENTS and LASTCLIP. Just select that folder. If you don’t have that, and only have the CONTENTS folder, make a folder to but that into, and then select that.

If your MXF file is Canon camcorder, I believe the post “Two ways to ingest Canon XF305 MXF recordings to Final Cut Pro 7” can give you a big help.

For the MXF video and audio clips, you can use a MXF convert like TransMXF, it works well for converting the format and do some simple editing. For the others, sorry I have no idea for how to deal with them.
