  • Converting MTS files in Premiere Pro II

    Hi group,

I used to have a video business and used Sony VX-2000 DV cameras about 4 years ago. I have since got out of the business, but still do some post every now and again using Premiere Pro II. I recently had to video a funeral for a friend at the last minute and borrowed a Panasonic AG-HMC 150P HD camera. I wanted to set it at 480P (SD) since my help (2nd shooter) was shooting with an older Canon GL, but the lowest definition was 720P at 30fps. I just need a basic dvd…not HD.

    My question is two part:

    1) What is the best way to import the .MTS files into Premiere so I can see them? I’ve seen some post on here that are somewhat dated, and I was wondering what’s the latest software I need to convert the files to AVI or MPEG2 formats, without complications? Preferably AVI.

    2) I also need to down convert the 720 to 480 to match the GL format. What is the best way to go about this in Premiere?

Any replies are greatly appreciated as I am rusty and know nothing about working with AVCHD files. I’m just trying to help a friend out, and I bit off a little more than I can chew.

Thanks so much for any advice!!

You cannot import mts files into Pro2, You need to convert them first to SD avi.
I am not sure if this is going to work but if you have both camera’s and the Pana has composite out hook it up to the VX and hook that up to the computer. If this works you can capture to dv-avi.

Thanks for your reply Ann. After my lengthy post, I figured it out. However, if anybody has comments or advice, it’s always welcomed.

    Thanks for reading!
