  • Converting .MTS files for AE?

Posted by Aaron Bear on January 11, 2011 at 2:51 am

Hi all, long time no post.

I got this really nice, small Sony HD (1920×1080) handheld camcorder. The video file types it records as are .MTS files. I cant open this file in any of my editing software and the only thing that will play it is VLC. How can I convert this so I can play around with footage in AE? Is there a codec plugin that I can download?

After Effects imports .mts files. The trial version doesn’t, but the full version does. Are you using the trial version?

Here’s a list of what formats After Effects can import:

I’ve done that with Adobe Media Encoder. From there you can convert to MPEG, Quicktime, FLV, etc.
.MTS does look good imported into AE tho.
