I am converting MKV files to AVI in order to edit on Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I am using River Past video cleaner and when I do the conversion the 16×9 aspect ratio becomes squeezed into a 4×3 frame. I’ve checked and triple checked the settings but seems to be no difference. Also I am outputing to
AVI-DV (Type 1),compressor DV Video Encoder……are these correct?

    Thanks for your help

Converting probably looses the widescreen flag but Premiere likes DV type 2 best. Type I needs to be rendered first before previewing.

Just reinterpret footage and force widescreen.

Is there something better to use to convert from MKV? I know I’m already swimming upstream but unfortunately my source material is mainly in this format (via the internet). Also, I have read conflicting opinions on whether or not APP CS4 handles DivX well……does it?

    Thanks again,

    Spencer

No, CS4 does not handle DivX well.
