converting media to hi-res that I got from dvd x dvpro
Hi there,
I used DVDXDVPro to convert media from dvds to a Quicktime file, which I then imported low-res into Final Cut for my rough cut. Now I want to convert my media to hi-res (NTSC), but I don’t know how that works for media that I converted from dvd using dvd x dvpro. I tried to simply “reconnect media” in Media Manager, and the size was wrong. (Duh.) Is there something I can do besides re-laying it all in manually? Wish I had a “batch capture” equivalent capability for these.

The size was wrong…you can try to REMOVE ATTRIBUTES, BASIC MOTION and see what that does.

When you rip the hi-res versions, name them the same as the old movies but all to a new folder. Close the FCP project. Rename the folder that the low res movie are in. Duplicate the project file. Open the Duplicated project file (Rename Hi-res or something) it will tell you that media is offline, click Reconnect and go to the folder with the hi-res movies in them. Point to the first one and then it will link all the movies that are in that folder.
Probably will need to reset the sequence to match your new files. Only thing that cannot be reset would be the frame rate but hopefully that is the same.

Thanks, Michael. I’ll give it a try. I have a strange follow-up question:
When I originally ripped the DVDs, I unknowingly preserved the original frame size of the DVDs (one of the Preferences options in DVDxDVPro), so now the clips all different sizes and I need to recapture them the right size that the rest of the video is in. Two of the options that DVDxDVPro gives me are: NTSC (4:3) that’s 640 x 480 or NTSC DV (2:3) that’s 720 x 480. My camera guy shot in 4:3, but I always thought NTSC 4:3 was 720 x 480. I’m confused. Which do I choose?
