  • Converting large amounts of position and angle data into keyframes

    Hello,

I want to model the position of a video game character onto a map for a 30-second sequence. Using a script, I extracted the position and facing angle of said character on every frame (totaling a bit over 1000 frames). After a conversion to make it match the map of the level, the result is position and angle data for a clip in Premiere. This is in an Excel/text format, and my goal is to convert that position and angle data into keyframes in Premiere.

Is there a way to do this without doing it by hand? I’ve done similar things by hand before when it was one variable for a couple hundred frames at most, but we’re talking about 3 variables and over 1000 frames now, so this would be horribly tedious.

    Example data:
    Frame X Y Angle
    1 500 980 345
    2 500 976 345
    3 500 972 345
    4 499 968 345
    5 499 964 345
    6 498 960 345
    7 498 956 345
    8 498 952 340
    9 497 948 338
    10 497 944 336

Edit: I ended up working it out! I used After Effects. When you paste keyframes into Notepad, the result looks like this

Adobe After Effects 8.0 Keyframe Data

    Units Per Second 29.97
    Source Width 80
    Source Height 92
    Source Pixel Aspect Ratio 1
    Comp Pixel Aspect Ratio 1

    Transform Scale
    Frame X percent Y percent Z percent
    45 100 100 100
    63 50 50 50

    End of Keyframe Data

So, I used this as a reference and edited in my own values and pasted it back in After Effects. Then, I saved it as a premiere project and imported that into my own project. It worked seamlessly on the first go!
