Converting highspeed footage back to 24fps
we shoot canon 7D created the proress files then conformed to 23.98 so they look overcranked. Now the director wants to see use the footage as if it were shot in 23.98.
We speed the clips up to 200% it looks ok, but i am unsure if this is the best process regarding frame blending, selection of frames etc.
Is there a better solution to make highspeed footage 60fps back to 23.98 on a technical level that also looks seamless. Or is this possible.

You should actually be speeding them up to 250% (if they were shot at 60, you’re FPS was re-conformed to 23.98). Turn off frame blending. Then it’ll be playing in real-time.
also you can go into Cinema Tools and re-conform the FPS flag to 60.
Just be aware that it WON’T ever look like it was shot in 23.98. 60fps plus a higher shutter speed gives you that “soap opera” look

I tried MPEG streamclip and actually got some interesting results.
I opened the original clip right out of the 7D in the original H.264 60fps file and brought it into MPEG Stream clip and exported a uncompress file at 23.98 with and without frame blending and it looked great. it was like it removed the soap opera look from the footage and left me with 24 frames.

Picking 24 frames from 60 will yield decent results, as you discovered, but you’ll miss the motion blur a 24p native exposure would give you. Adding motion blur via Re:Vision’s Real Smart Motion Blur would add the final touch. It will only add blur to objects moving across the frame.

I’ve tried to conform back p25 stuff (Prores) to the original p50, but no way.

“As pointed out, if you shoot at a higher shutter speed than you like, you can simulate a longer shutter speed with our ReelSmart Motion Blur. It trackes the pixels in the scene and adds motion blur based on calculated motion. Just FYI. https://www.revisionfx.com/products/rsmb/
So my real addition is this: This also great if you need to shoot at a higher shutter speed to get a better key when shooting green screen footage… and then you can add a simulated motion blur back in after you pull your key.
