    Hello Everyone,

    Firstly, Happy New Year!

    I was wondering if anyone can figure where I’m going wrong please?

    I’m capturing footage from a Canon 5D Mk2 and trying to convert the raw footage using Mpeg Streamclip. I have a choice of 2 Pro Res selections, but whichever I choose, the converted Pro Res 422 file is much larger than the original.

    I’m running Quicktime 7.6.9, FCP 6.0.6, OSX 10.5.8

    I’ve also had the same results trying to use compressor. Thanks in advance

    There is nothing wrong. Normal behavior. H264 is highly compressed. Highly. ProRes is an editing codec, not nearly as compressed.

    This is normal.

    If you are really short of disk space or have a large shooting ratio, what I have done in the past is to rough cut the required footage with H264 (slow and often like editing in treacle)

    Then consolidate and transcode just the required material for fine editing.

    Or even better transcode all and edit in PRORES then consolidate and keep just the PRORES required.
    Obviously keep your H264 as your camera archive.
