Converting flv to QT?
I’ve been asked to make some minor edits to a webcast that was captured as an flv file.
What’s the best way to convert flv to mov, so I can edit in Final Cut? Is there some freeware that I can use to convert the file? Or should I find some software that will edit the flv natively?
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Hi Mike,
Download and install Perian.
You will be able to open the Flash clips in QT, and so export.

MPEG Streamclip will do it and it’s free. It’s a great app to have in your toolbox.

Depending on the flv codec used, you might be able to change the .flv to .mov

The problem with changing .flv to .mov IMHO is you’d then have an H.264 file which is not an edit codec. You still have to convert to ProRes or other format to edit. Don’t forget to make sure your audio sample rate is 48kHz, not 44.1kHz.
