Converting 50p to 25p is more difficult than I thought
I don’t know if this is a bug, or what’s going on. I have a 50p movie that I wan’t to convert to 25p. I want to use After Effects for this, since it does not give me a gamma shift, like when I use QT. QuickTime says the length of the movie is 1:36:38, thus the 25p version should have a length of 1:36:19 (same exact length, different timebase). When I import it into AE it interprets it correctly as 50p, but says the length is 1:36:19, event when I set the TC timebase to 50. When I drag the footage into a 25p timeline, it has a length of 1:36:09! What is going on and how can I keep AE from shortening my movie by 10 frames?

QuickTime Player’s Info panel measures hours, minutes, seconds, and fractions of a second (decimal), not frames. Note the difference between the period and the colon.
In other words, it’s 1:36.38 (1 minute, 36 seconds, 38% of a second). 38% of 50 frames is 19. They are two ways of representing the same length.
1:36.38 = 1:36:19 (base 50).
