  • Convert film reel RTF dialogue list to NTSC subtitles?

    Hey all,

Never a dull moment in a production.

I have a project I’m working on where the studio only provided me with RTF subtitle files meant for film subtitling (broken into reels, each file starts at zero). I’m looking to convert these subs into a single file and then frame convert – ultimately use them in final cut or premiere + as DVD subtitles.

Any recommendations? Ideas? I know that many of these subs tend to be related to specific subtitle soft/hardware that the sub companies use.

Here’s what the data looks like in the RTFs.

    0104 05:00:32:12 Subtitle here.

A subtitle shop may be able to do the conversion for you, but it may make sense just to time the subs from scratch in a program like BelleNuit or Sub Workshop. For a feature, this should take less than a day.

Or, sent me a file, i can see if i can write an import handler so Subbits (my subtitle application) can convert them.

You then have the benefit of having instant subs in all kind of formats.
