I shot 16:9 HD video but have had to change to 284 x 204 pixels yet still maintain the HD quality. In a word, I’ve been going insane at the dozens of approaches I’ve tried. I was successful a couple of times but for the life of me can’t begin to retrace my steps and now am completely befuddled! I’m not sure if I have to first crop in FCP, and I don’t know how to get a precise crop, and then export to Compressor, where if I do manage to convert to 284 x 204 it’s either blurry or squished horizontally.

I’ve tried creating a new sequence in FCP, setting it at 284 x 204, which is fine, then I copy and past the tracks from the 16:9 sequence, but I can’t find the combination of settings which will result in crisp video at that size, although I did actuallly do it somehow a couple of times.

Would anyone have a step by step procedure to do this? I would be eternally grateful. I have a company website launch in two days and about two thirds of my interview videos need a crisper look.

    Hi Harry,
In FC set your sequence with an uncompress codec.
Set “Render all YUV material in High Precision’ and “Render Motion Effects: BEST”.
All this should help to downscaling in FC.
