There are two things I’d like to do that are related.

First, I’d like to blur out the faces of people in a video. It’s easy enough to apply any of the available bluring type filters in FCP, but how to I control the shape and size, and then can I have it move by keyframing it?

The second thing is similar – I’d like to draw an oval around a subject in my video, stroke the oval with red, then darken the background a bit – giving a spotlight effect – and then move this spotlight with the subject. Seems like this should be done the same way as the first issue, just using a drawing tool and a levels adjustment instead of the blur filter, right?

    Any help is appreciated.

If you make a new video track, and put the video above itself, you can do all these kinds of tricks. If you blur the top layer with the blur filter, all you have to do now is cut a hole in the top layer to show through to the bottom layer – the garbage matte will do this for you.
