  • Controlling FX in other comps, possible?

Posted by Kim Petersen on December 4, 2007 at 12:28 pm

    Hello expression masters,

My scenario: 30 + comps with 3D stroke applied (animated) these go in a main comp to form a master image. Is it possible to control the thickness and color without having to modify each comp individually?

I guess I could create a preset and then modify that. But I want to have immediate control over the animation.

    Thanks for any help!

    Best,
    Kim

You could link all the Thickness parmeters to a single Slider Control (Effects > Expression Controls) and the Color parameters to a Color Control. I’d apply those controls to a null layer.

Hi Dan, great news to hear that I can actually do it. Sorry for being a bit thick, but how do I actually link the comps to the slider, I can’t pickwhip in between comps right?

    Thanks again!

If getting the two comp windows open is a little tough, here’s the syntax for accessing a composition and a layer in that composition:

    comp("My Composition's Name").layer("My Layer's Name")
