  • Constrain motion to one direction when dragging in canvas?

Posted by Scott Clements on January 12, 2016 at 11:42 am

    Hi,

Say you click on the motion button in the effects control section of a clip. Then, you get the blue bounding box in the canvas/program monitor. Then you wish to drag your clip’s position to the right. In most programs, you hold shift as you drag and you will only go to the right and not accidentally diagonally. But, this does not work for me in Premiere. Is there a modifier for this? Thanks!

    Hi Scott,

You’ve found another one that deserves a feature request. https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html

I know this one has been on the radar for a long time just hasn’t gotten in the product yet.

Possible workaround is to change the Position value in the Effect Controls panel. Twirl down the triangle for Motion to see the parameters. Under Position, click on the left value, keep the mouse down and move mouse to the right.

Thanks, Trent. I am doing this already, but it’s not as interactive as the method I described.
