  • Constant OS X crashes in FCP HD 4.5

Posted by Dolphin on October 25, 2005 at 3:29 pm

I am having a new problem. OS X 10.3 continues to crash when I am trying to play a project in FCP HD 4.5. It is not a freeze-up, or a crash where I am asked to report it to Apple. It is a dimming screen with instructions for a hard-restart. I have re-loaded both OS X and FCP HD, trashed the preferences, zapped the p-ram …. no difference. Any ideas?

you are experienccing a kernel panic. Most often, kernel panics happen due to problematic hardware, especialy RAM, but sometimes it’s a bad third party driver…

do you have special hardware like PCI cards (firewire, scsi, ethernet, etc) ? Have you added ram rencently? do you have an hardware test cd that came with your G4?

Thanks, Bob. I recently upgraded to Quicktime 7.0.3, but I have not downloaded or added anything else, and until recently, the system has worked great. Came in this morning after letting FCP run an hour-long program to copy to my DSR-20 and found it crashed again, thiis time with a notice of crash and inquiry as to whether I wanted to notify Apple about it. Perplexing. I have plenty of memory.

AS SOON AS I UPGRADED QT TO 7.0.3 FROM 6.5.2 I HAD NOT STOP FCP QUITS sorry caps

Go back to 6.5.2. Most likely you will have to load in OS from start as an archive. QT 7 and FCP 4.5 do NOT work together. The other option is to move to FCP 5\
