Captured hundreds of GBs 10bit HD footage direct from HD camera.
Need to export bunch of selected clips for editing on a PC – preferably in DV codec, and bring back edit-list after editing for on-lining.
The Media Manager cannot create a DV duplicate of the project (since it doesn’t work) – and EDL import only works for recapturing!

Tricky…. but here are some thoughts.

EDL Import *can* reconnect instead of recapture. File -> Import -> EDL…, then under “Import For” choose “Reconnect.”

To get the files out of FCP in DV, try this:

Edit all your selects into one sequence. Drag them all from that sequence into one bin. Highlight the bin in the browser and choose Batch Export. Choose a DV preset, and make sure to check “Use Item In to Out.” Let ‘er rip, and you’ll end up with a folder full of DV exports of the clips you selected.

Now you can take the sequence you just made and make an EDL for import on the PC (or better still, use Automatic Duck). Reconnect the EDL on the PC to the media you just made, and edit away.

Reverse the process to get back to FCP. Write an EDL on the PC from your edited sequence, and import it for reconnect with FCP, or again, use the Duck to preserve more of your edit information.

To reply to my own post…

Using Batch Export as I outlined above will preserve timecode, as long as you use QuickTime. However, if you just output a DV stream, timecode will be lost, and you won’t be able to reconnect for online like you want to.

Will your offline editor be able to handle QuickTime media?

Walter, thanks for this very useful input – will try it today. Offline is on PremierePro, so it should be able to handle Quicktime.
