  Considering Downgrading Video Card for AE… opinions?

  I am using AE CS3 on a quad G5 mac as a machine that is primarily dedicated to After Effects. The current video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 with 256 MB of video ram. I have had a ton of portrait oriented HD work lately, and so I just bought 2 new hp w2207 monitors which can pivot into portrait mode. Unfortunately, I discovered that on the mac only ATI graphics cards support display rotation. I don’t know that I want to upgrade the graphics card at the moment, as I am not sure how much longer I am going to be using this machine… (I would like to upgrade sometime soon to a new 8 core mac). We have an older G5 here that has an ATI Raedeon 9600 pro with 64 MB of video ram. I was considering swapping out the cards, in effect downgrading my AE machine, but letting it use display rotation. I was wondering how much this would impact my After Effects performance. To my knowledge most of AE is based on the processor, and the RAM and not on the video card, so I am hoping it won’t hurt too much. Any opinions?
