  • Connecting my Canon XL2 to Comp to record via Dazzle?

I normally use Vegas to record video from my camera to comp, but this comp has no firewire port. Someone suggested I use this Dazzle device (by Pinnacle I believe?) to transfer my video. How exactly does this work? I tried using the red white yellow cables to connect my canon xl2 to the Dazzle, and then connected the Dazzle USB to my comp, but when I turn my camera on, my pc doesn’t recognize it as being connected.

    How exactly does Dazzle work?

    Hmmm…

Back in 2002, Dazzle was the first convertor I used. Then I’d attach via FireWire, not USB. Composite to the Dazzle and then FW to my Dell Latop. Under these circumstances the camera also was not recognised. It was the FW stream that was recognised. And of course, there wasn’t any camera control!

I’m sorry, I’ve no experience via USB. My suggestions would be:-

    1) Insert a FW card – and forget the Dazzle

    2) Capture on the other Comp and transfer – and forget the Dazzle.

    Sorry, not much help.

    Grazie

Not very well. It’s a piece of junk and I wouldn’t capture any footage you care about with it. It’s not going to give you quality anywhere near firewire would. Firewire is a lossless digital transfer of exactly what’s on your camera. Dazzle is an inexpensive analog device meant for home use (and it doesn’t even do that well).

I agree with Graham. Forget Dazzle. Get a firewire card for your computer.
