connecting JVC BR-HD50 deck to mac
i cannot seem to get my editor to recognize my JVC BR-HD50 deck. the deck settings are set to capture DV footage and all of my settings on FCP are set for DV NTSC.
But whenever i boot up FCP i get:
unable to locate the following external devices:
apple firewire ntsc (720×480)your system config may have changed, or your deck/camera may be disconnected or turned off.
please check connections and blah blah blah
Any ideas?

What happens when you are connected to a different DV device (say a camcorder?)

I’m not telling you that you SHOULD.
I was trying to narrow down the problem.
It is obviously the DECK.
Do you have the deck in the proper “remote” condition (DV. FiewWire, iLink, etc. ?)

yeah…the deck is connected to the computer through firewire. i have the connection setting on the computer set to firewire also.

But there are MANY selectors that must be in the correct position to get the FireWire to control the deck.
Here’s a setting that must be made via the MENU.
This is a cut from the User Manual pg. 67-
Non-Linear Edit System-Control with IEEE1394
•Set the INPUT SELECT switch located
on the front panel to HDV/DV.
• Set the IEEE1394 switch located on
the front panel to match the video format.
• Set to DV position for DV mode, and to
HDV position for HDV mode.
• Set the REMOTE/LOCAL switch on the
front panel to the position matching
the REMOTE menu below.
• REMOTE [1/2] Menu screen
• Set REM SEL HDV/DV to ON or LOC+REM.
Set this item to ON if it is to become
enabled only when the REMOTE/LOCAL
switch on the front panel is set to REMOTE.
Set this item to LOC+REM if it is to become
enabled regardless of the position of the
REMOTE/LOCAL switch. -
I have been testing different footage this week and had real problems capturing JVC 1080 HD 24p PAL version and tried using the camera and it has some really weird issues with capturing only cpature now and misses few seconds of each clips and if not set to very loose user preferences (no drop frame detection) it just wont capture
so What I am interested in have people got this JVC HD deck to capture the footage without same issues via firewire or is it just poor through firewire and needing HDMI and rs422 cable for device control. I know I have had a whole load of problem with older JVC pro DV and a JVC dv/vhs player (buggy machines)
