Connecting Avid to Unity…
OK…I am an old time Avid guy who made the switch to FCP 3 years ago. Now I have a job coming up that is Avid, and there is the possibility that I can rent the company my system. Currently I have the software, but will be looking into getting the MOJO or NITRIX DX boxes. What I don’t know about is what I need to connect the system to the existing UNITY that they have. I have the Apple 4G Fibre card, but don’t think that is what is needed. Is there and Avid Fibre card, or will the Apple one work? If so, then all I have to buy is the DX box…right?
Help get me back to Avid…even though I still like FCP. I LOVE the new Avid.

Couple of things, there isn’t an “Avid” fibre card, but they will sell you an ATTO acrd with their markup if you like. 😉
If your fibre card is the “Apple” card, whose make is it really? Odds are it’s not supported. My bet is you’re buying an ATTO card. You then need to find out whether they’re running 2 gig or 4 gig.
You will need to also make sure that whatever version of MC you are running is compatible with their version of Unity. The easiest thing would be to ask them what version of MC they are running, and set yourself up accordingly. Make sure you also have supported versions of system and QT to match their version of software.
They will have the Unity client software to install on your system.

They are running Avid 3.0. That I have. They just got 5 machines, and they are all on the unity, so I will ask if they have 2G or 4G fibre. Then look into the ATTO card. I might see if the Apple one works first. If not, then cough up the dough.
But what gets me is that I might need to get a Mojo. SPENDY little bugger that…for what it does. My Kona 3 does much more than that card can dream of…yet it costs 1/3 the price. Ugh. So I wonder if it will be worth it…ATTO, MOJO. Provide the tech support.

Not necessarily. If they are capturing on another station, all you need is playback. Check out Matrox MXO for $995. It works with Mac MC.

Ah, yes. The MXO I have…and I forgot that it can do that.
I’ll have to do some testing here. Because I need two computer monitors, AND the MXO to client, and that means 3 DVI ports.
