  Connect AT Lav to Nikon D5100 for Video Interviews

  I bought an Audio-Technica ATR3350 Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone, which said that it was compatible with DSLRs. When I tried to connect the microphone to my Nikon D5100, all I got was static. I have tried adjusting the in-camera audio settings, but I am not sure how to set the camera to only pick up from an external audio input.
