Confused-Best CPU PC for Vegas
Hello again,
It’s time to update my 3-year old home-built PC. It has a Pentium-4 3.4GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM, and fast HDs.
I would like to buy (preferably, rather than build) a ready-made PC, that would perform the rendering in much faster 2x to 4x time than the present PC.
The newer, 2 and 4-core CPUs and their info is totally confusing, regarding their relative speeds.
Any and all suggestions and guidance welcome.
(I will be traveling to the US in the Spring, need to research & get ahead of the curve.)

I would go for one of the i7 processors

As Theo points out, the Core i7 family of Quad Core processors is a good way to go. The Core i7 920 seems to be the price/performance sweet spot. If you’re not going to build it yourself then I would only buy from a reputable “workstation” builder and stay far away from “desktop” PC’s. Boxx Technology is one of the best builders. The HP Z800 Workstation line is also very nice.
