  • Conforming an HDV ADRENALINE project (AVID DS vs FINAL TOUCH / CUT)

In our company (Madrid, Spain) we got a job of CGrading, a few VfX and Conforming an Indy film for blow-out…

Since the project (HDV) was OFF-ONLINED in an Avid Adrenaline (another company) we’re considering two options…

-Rent an AVID DS system for a couple of weeks (I’m myself an Avid Ds operator)

-Since we’re a MAC-oriented boutique (Final Cut, Shake, decklink) we could buy Final touch HD (and the Quadro card)

The Thing is we’re afraid of the AVID to FINAL CUT port of HDV material (no degrading reconversions or recutting material would be a plus).

Any advice on the most convenient workflow…?

Since it’s already been cut on Avid and you’re a DS operator, I would suggest renting the DS. Taking a project from Avid to FCP would be a headache, add a lot of time ensuring everything onlines correctly, and you wouldn’t be left owning equipment that may not be used for a while. If you go with the dS, the time you would have spent porting everything from Avid to FCP could be spent actually working–meaning, making money. No reason to muddy the waters just to stay on a MAC system. Rent DS, get the job done, cash the check and start the next project. Good luck, it sounds like fun!
