Right now I have a dual 450 G4 1.5 G of Ram, 64 MB video Card, more disk space than even I need through firewire and SCSI Raid and FCP 4.5. I still get minimal RT performance.

My question is, would I be better off getting a single 1 ghz processor upgrade? The dual processors don’t seem to really make a difference. Or am I just spoiled by dual G5s at work?

    Thanks in advance.

You are using an OLD machine my friend. Dual 450? That is a 5+ year old machine. Very slow by todays standards.

And yes, you are very spoiled by the G5s are work.

Yep, I’ll second that. Both FCP 4 and FCP 5 will run very slow on that machine and a single 1Ghz machine will probably be a little slower.

Walter, Shane, thank you both for your responses. I guess this is my real quandry. I don’t want to plunk down almost $700 for a dual 1.3 upgrade (even though it sounds nice, $700 is waaaaaaay too much for cutting mostly personal projects and learning FCP). If I wait 2 months or so, I could afford the 1.2 single processor. What would you guys say would be the minimum acceptable upgrade? I wish there were a middle ground, like dual 7 or 800 processors, but i haven’t found any.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks again.
