Computer specs and Vegas 8 Platinum
I have just purchased a Sony HDR-TG3E HD Camcorder and am considering trialling the Sony Vegas 8 Platinum. I want to capture in AVCHD and output to disk at the highest level that the software allows and to have 5.1 audio. I would probably be editing a maximum of 1 hours high quality video. I need to know whether my system is up to the editing task. I have:-
Sony Vaio VGN-AR21S Full HD Laptop
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 2.GHZ
Memory 2GB DDR2 SDRAM
HDD 200Gb
Blu Ray disk drive
Graphics NVidia GeForce Go 7600GT with 256MB dedicated video memory
External HDD Lacie 500GB
OS Windows Media Center 2005I would be grateful if someone could comment on the suitability or otherwise of this setup, for the anticipated level of editing.

You will want to ensure that your bluray drive is actually a burner. The AVCHD format is hard to edit currently but VASST makes a program called AVC Upshift that will convert the files to M2T files for better editablity.
Of course, you could always use more processor power but yours should be fine if you convert the files first. You can try AVCHD first and then downlaod the AVC Upshift trial and compare to see if it benefits you.
Also, I don’t use Platinum- you may want to look into the special for Vegas pro 8 from BHphotovideo.com- it may be more worth your while after you run the trial for platinum (and 8 pro).

Apologies for not replying sooner but my Wife and I have just returned from a cruise to Norway. Thanks for your helpful reply. My Blu Ray Disk Drive is a burner and I have Ulead’s BD Disk Recorder software.Regards
