My four year old imac was choking on Resolve so I got a PC computer from my brother. It is running i7 at 3.5 ghtz, 1-SSD and 1-2TB HD. I updated video card to GTX970 and picked up two 24 inch 1080 monitors to get started. Been off of PC for many years so had to learn a bit about windows 10 before begining. Now I imported the .MOV files (4K at 100mbps) from my GH-4 and did a little one minute edit to test (Running latest version of Resolve). Very jerky playback and I have not even begun to add color nodes. Should I be rendering to a different format for the PC? Should I do this as I import, or optimize afterwards? And last should I be caching the frames for smoother playback in a lower Codex like DNxHR SQ? Thanks in advance for the help.

    what are your movie files?

Storage throughput is an important step in the process. A single 2 tb internal hard drive is probably the beginnings of your problem.

It is not how much storage…but how fast.
