I’m working with audio that a client captured on an XL2. Unfortunately, it was done in 4channel/32k, 12-bit mode. And, no wireless mic was used – all audio of the single presenter and audio were captured by the camera-mounted shotgun.

So, the presenter’s levels are extremely low, and the laughs, coughs and claps of people seated near the camera are very high. I’m trying to use the Compressor/Limiter filter, but it doesn’t seem to be working the way I think it should.

There are two mono tracks. I’ve set the threshold at -6dB. The filter seems to do the best job when it’s applied to only one of the 2 channels, and it doesn’t seem to matter which channel the filter is applied to.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks

Gotta say that what you are attempting isn’t easy to fix. Got Soundtrack Pro? That has features that will do the job a ton better than FCP can do…
