Compressor wierdness…
i know this is nothing new to most of you, but strange things be going on with Compressor. yesterday, it kept rendering the wrong audio track. additionally, when it is done rendering now, it ends up closing the FCP project that it was rendering (not really such a terrible thing), but i’m just curious as to why it would do this. in other words, when the render is done, all that is left open for FCP windows is the Browser and the Viewer. before yesterday, the FCP project windows were left unchanged when Compressor was done. i trashed the FCP prefs yesterday with no change in the way Compressor behaved. finally got a good render out of Compressor overnight (that is, it rendered the right audio track), but i had not done anything differently.

Export a self-contained movie from FCP. Do not use reference movies and do not use export to compressor.
Open Compressor as a separate application, not from within FCP, and import your self-contained movie.
Compressor works much faster on its own than from within FCP. A self-contained movie cannot lose track of its reference links in nests or speed-altered clips. You can also apply several different settings to the same file, use Batch Monitor top send you email when it’s done or move the clips to a server.bogiesan

I was under the impression that using “Export to Compressor” from within Final Cut was working slower because it is aware of (and accounting for) all of the transitions. In other words, putting more effort into those areas.
I’m not sure if this is actually true, however. If it is it would be a reason to put up with the extra time. But if I’m just being foolish then exporting this way is a huge waste of time!
Does anyone actually know the answer to this?

It appears that FCP re-renders all frames in the 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 colorspace before handing off to Compressor, and avoids another transcode to dv before compresssion (compression on compression-not good)
This is why this route takes longer.
Definately the way to go, and NOT a waste of time!Cheers
