Compressor-The achilles heel of my workflow….
As an AVID editor over ten years, I’ve used Autodesk Cleaner XL and Sorensen Squeeze as two consistent programs to compress various forms of video.
I have never experienced the inconsistency in compression software like I have with Compressor…dear god I wish I could get it to work well.
I’ve followed the advice of a previous thread here and tried a custom install of Compressor but in doing so the screen showed me the following:
As shown above, the install screen did not give me the option of solely selecting “compressor”.
So I thought it might be a matter of highlighting Compressor since I couldn’t check that box by itself.
Well everything re-installed and 3.5 hours later I still have the same problem with Compressor. It just sits there and doesn’t Compress. Before that it would tell me that I would need to select a destination or compression setting AFTER I had already done so.
I tried the link to the Compressor fix/patch and that didn’t work. So I’m really at a loss. Yes, I’ve been going through the threads but this is getting to be major drag.
Any ideas from here or insight into why I can’t install Compressor by itself?

Brad,
If you just come from AVID, instead of blaming Compressor, document your self about your new Tools.
I don’t gonna tell you about may experience with Squeeze and Cleaner, but your commentary makes me laugh (sorry)
if you want to re-install only Compressor, go to main/library/receipts.
Look for the last Compressor receipt and delete it. Try to install again.
I don’t know if you are new to Mac too. If so a good understanding of the Mac OSX will help you whatever the application you use or the job you make.

Perhaps people might be able to help you with the issue that you believe you are having if you described the actual issue you having.
What is the issue with compressor?
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

Actually guys, I brought it by Mac Business Solutions in Gaithersburg, MD and they had a chance to look at it. They saw the problem and so far could not offer a solution.
The problem I have is that after the job has been submitted, it just sits there. The activity monitor shows it is using up a good deal of memory but it does not begin to compress. About one out of every ten tries, it does compress, but obviously I’m looking for something that works more consistently.
I’ve upgraded to Snow Leopard and I’m still using Final Cut Studio 2 but I’m considering upgrading.
Hopefully I’ll have this figured out soon. Compressor does a great job….when I can get it to work!

If not… then uninstall and Reinstall just Compressor

Hi Brad,
Had you done a clean install of Snow Leopard?
Much of the people that haven’t made a clean install are having lot of issues.
