Compressor slow (50% CPU, <10M disk)
Hi,
I amusing Compressor to encode iMovie DV to FCP DV PAL. I would expect it to be either CPU bound (i.e. >90% CPU) or Disk bound (I get > 15MB/s generally) but it seems to be neither.
I am intact getting a average CPU load across 4 cores of under 50% and disk seems to average around 5MB/s.
any ideas what is going on, have I missed something/set something up wrong.
I have a Mac Pro with 4 3Ghz CPUs. The source footage is on a external USB drive and target is local.

For compresor to take full advantage of your processors you need to set a a virtual cluster. Search the web there is good info out there on how to do this.

This is going to slow things down. USB works in bursts of data. Having a constant stream of data is MUCH better. The general rule is NEVER use USB for video.

Copy source footage to your sata drive
In system preferences-> qmaster
Select compressor->then instances
You could choose 4 but 3 is recommended.
Start sharing.Now when you submit a batch.
Choose cluster.Done

I went into Qmaster and set to compressor Service to have 2 instances (I am Quad core). I submitted to the Clistername I had set up. It looks like everything work except CPU usage is even lower and it does not seem to be creating any output files.
Any idea what Iam doing wrong?
