  • Compressor not using qmaster

I’m running an 8 core 2.66 mac pro with 16 GB of memory and I can’t seem to get compressor to engage qmaster. I’m compressing an 8 minute video from FCP 7 and the timeline is in XDCAM HD. No effects just two layers of regular cutting.

    Qmaster says

    Quickcluster with services selected.
Rendering – Share and Manage both checked (16 instances)
Compressor – Share and Mange both checked (16 instances)
    Sharing is on.

And when I try and select the virtual cluster compressor says FCP generates an error.

When I just use the computer without the cluster it’s taking hours to make an h.264 movie of my 8 minute seq.

I’ve tried reinstalling qmaster and compressor, and I’m wondering if I’m missing something?

    Can anyone help?
    *** Update:
I just exported a quicktime from FCP and dropped that in compressor and now it’s flying through using 98% of processor power… so problem seems to be FCP? Any suggestions other than a full re-install?

I have the same computer configuration and am using Qmaster successfully; the only difference between my setup and yours is that I do NOT have “Managed” checked in the Qmaster pane for Rendering and Compressor. Try deselecting those and see if it makes any difference. You might also want to reduce the number of instances from 8 to 7 (16 to 14). GIve it a try – hope it helps.

Send to Compressor (or using the Share function) in FCP does does support virtual clusters, like the one you have set up. It’ll error out every time. Always export a QT (either self-contained or not, both work) and bring it into Compressor.

I’ve been told it’s not an error but ‘not supported.’

Sigh and wait for a 64-bit FCStudio.

Regarding your update: that’s the way you have to do it – no reinstall necessary.

Thanks lads. Too bad, I hope they make it accessible right out of FCP.

    Cheers.
