  • compressor in fcp will not export my video

    Hi,

I am running fcp 5.0.4 on a mac g5. I have a video in which I was rendering a filmlook over (a very small part for testing) and then using compressor 2 to output to desktop. Everything was running fine until last night I got a message that said: “file error: a file with this name already exists” and then when it went to the batch monitor and I chose my settings and hit submit, my submission immediateley failed. Since then, I’ve used dikwarrior to clean up my directory, gone to a whole seperate part of my video (not using cinelook anymore) to output to desktop, and am getting the exact same response from Compressor. I don’t understand. Compressor won’t work with any file that I choose. I’ve started with new projects in fcp, different filenames with different videos, and the exact thing happens: “file error: a file with name already exists” and then fails my submission. Oh, also, the reason it says that it fails is because “the media server application unexpectedly quit” … Please help me. I’m trying to gain entry into a film festival and the deadline is soon!!

    Thanks very much,
    Jerry

Try trashing the Compressor preference file then attempt another FCP export. Here’s the path to the file:

    Macintosh HD>Users>”yourname”> Library>Preferences>com.apple.compressor.Compressor.plist
