  • Compresor not up to the job – recommendation on a good software encoder

Posted by Wayne Williams on May 22, 2010 at 3:03 am

I have a critical work project – long weekend ahead of me…

I have HD content in ProRes 422 HQ.

I need to create a high quality MPEG 2 transport stream. The catch is that it needs to be encoded as cbr versus vbr.

Compressor looks to only support vbr encoding for MPEG 2 with SD, not HD content..

Ideally someone could share a way to get there within Final Cut Studio applications.

Short of that I need to buy an alternative software encoder. Needs to be high quality. Any recommendations on something that will get me to cbr MPEG 2 with ProRes in a QuickTime wrapper as it’s input?

    Thanks,

    Wayne

Compressor can certainly do CBR encoding in mpeg2

    Encoder Tab> Quality> Mode> One Pass CBR

But if quality is your issue that is something else.
