  • Compound clips created in timeline don’t appear in Event Browser?

Posted by Bob Woodhead on July 2, 2012 at 11:52 am

As the title sez, a Compound clip created in the timeline doesn’t appear in Event Browser in 10.4. If I select some clips *in* the Event Browser, and “file make cc”, then it shows the CC in the EB.

    This happening to others?

In Legacy, when you wanted to use a nested sequence in multiple sequences, and be able to have changes made to the nested’s original timeline flow to other timelines, you HAD to paste FROM THE BIN, NOT ANOTHER TIMELINE to retain “linkage”. I just tested this in X, and the same rule holds true. But if the compound clip isn’t shown in the Event Browser when you create it in the timeline, how can you follow the rule?

Interested in knowing if this is working in a previous version, or fixed in 10.5.

As far as I know FCPX has always worked that way so there’s nothing to fix. It’s always dangerous to expect X to work the way previous versions did.

Create an empty compound clip in the event browser, then copy and paste your timeline clips into it.

[Jeff Kirkland] “Create an empty compound clip in the event browser, then copy and paste your timeline clips into it.”

And then delete & replace the clips in the original timeline with the new compound clip, I assume? OK, only 1 step more than Legacy, that’s cool.

No, I wasn’t trying to make X work like Legacy, I was trying (and always try when learning X) to follow the “new rules”. Just double-checked the manual, and indeed it does not explicitly state it creates a clip in the event browser when creating a CC inside a timeline. I assumed. Ahem. * cough * cough* 😉
